The only reason I picked this book was the title was unusual and I was curious what do you mean by Bawse. Prior reading this book I did not know who is Lily Singh. For those who do not know her she is one of the most famous YOUTUBER. Now everybody is trying to become youtuber but in the initial days of the youtube she is one of the courageous woman who took the chance to follow a unconventional career in youtube.
The author Lily Singh has a famous youtube channel called as “Superwoman”. You can check her channel. I preferred her book rather than her channel. Lily Singh has very beautifully written a book with practical knowledge presented in a very easy manner. If one seriously follows her advice one really can be Bawse.
But first let me define what is Bawse according to the author:
Bawse is someone who excels in both personal and professional settings. A Bawse exudes confidence, turns heads, gets hurt efficiently, communicates effectively, and hustles relentlessly.
The word though sounds unconventional is very liberating and one should really aspire to be Bawse in Life. The book consists of many chapters in which Lily has given her own example to illustrate lot of her problems and how she overcome them. Some of my favourite quotes from the book are:
Not being able to control people and situations doesn’t make you powerless; it just means you have to exercise your power in a different way. If you can’t control people, then control your reaction to them. If you can’t control a situation, then prepare for it.
The best way to stop people from pushing your buttons is to start pushing your own.
“Everything you want is just outside your comfort zone.”
Trent Shelton said, “Words lie; actions can lie too. Consistency speaks the truth.”
Similarly, if you’re the person who gets crossed over, it’s in your best interest to get better, not bitter. Getting better helps your game; getting bitter does not.
“There is no wrong or right. There’s just different.” Repeating this to myself has helped me be less hung up on “winning arguments.” I only came to this realisation because I stopped feeling sorry for myself and started paying attention to the signs the universe was giving me.
Just because something is important to you, it doesn’t mean it’s important to them.”
“There’s a lot of horrible things happening in the world, and to deal with it you have two choices. You can pretend it doesn’t exist and be numb to it. You can probably do this and live a long, happy life and still feel like a good person. Or you can recognise that you won the lottery with your privilege and do something with your winnings.”
Lily Singh has given very practical advice to handle our personal and professional life and the book is worth reading. She has shared how she has dealt with her successes and failures. This book is really a Guide to Conquering Life. I definitely recommend this book for reading and implementing it in our life to become real Bawse like Lily Singh.
